Documenting Fraud Investigations in a Digital World
Proper documentation is critical during a fraud investigation This presentation will review current best practises for note taking and reporting during a fraud investigation. Starting with current issues with traditional documentation formats including, scrap paper, bound paper notebook and pen and word processing applications. The presentation will then introduce the use of digital note-taking systems such as Forensic Notes. Finally, an introduction to the new Forensic Witness Application and some thoughts on the future of fraud investigation documentation.
Robert Merriott has over 13 years of policing experience working as a frontline officer, tactical operator, and as a Forensic Examiner in the Digital Forensics Unit. Before his policing career, Robert obtained a Bachelor of Science in Computer Information Systems and worked in the private sector as a web application developer. Robert founded Forensic Notes after realizing current digital note-taking applications didn't meet the high standards expected of contemporaneous notes in the courtroom.
